Learners should recognise subtle differences in tone, register, and style, interpret implied meanings and sociocultural references, and draw conclusions about a speaker’s intentions, attitudes, relationships, and background, including in abstract, complex, or highly specialised discussions.
In written comprehension, students should be able to read virtually all forms of Greek with ease, including literary works, specialised articles, technical texts, correspondence, manuals, and structurally or linguistically demanding material. They should identify implicit attitudes and intentions, recognise stylistic nuances, locate relevant information efficiently, and critically evaluate the material they consult. They should also use dictionaries, reference works, and other supporting resources confidently when dealing with unfamiliar or conceptually difficult content.
In written production, learners should express themselves fluently, precisely, and appropriately across a wide range of themes. They should produce sophisticated letters, reports, essays, articles, narratives, reviews, memoranda, messages, descriptions, and accurate summaries. Their writing should be logically structured, responsive to genre conventions, and supported by a broad command of grammar, rich vocabulary, idiomatic expression, and Greek/Cyprus sociocultural and sociolinguistic awareness. They should organise information so that key points are clear, memorable, and effectively emphasised.
In spoken interaction and production, students should participate naturally and confidently in virtually any conversation, discussion, negotiation, or public-speaking situation. They should adapt their language to audience, purpose, relationship, and social context, use idiomatic expressions appropriately, exchange information and advice, present advantages and disadvantages, and reformulate difficult ideas smoothly. They should manage interaction effectively, maintain the floor when necessary, request clarification appropriately, and present arguments spontaneously, accurately, and persuasively.
Overall, C2 learners should demonstrate exceptional control of Greek grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, discourse, and register. They should communicate with a high degree of fluency, accuracy, flexibility, and sophistication in demanding social, academic, professional, and public contexts, while understanding and producing even highly complex language with ease.
